Support of language and communication
Services
With none speaking individuals, suggestions are made on how to enhance the development of language and communication through the use of visually supported communication. The focus is firstly on enhancing pre-linguistic skills which form the basis from which understanding and talking is developed. These skills include eye-contact, joint attention, turn taking, imitation, anticipation, requesting and protesting.
For speaking individuals, the focus is on developing the understanding(receptive) and the social use of language (pragmatics).
